Episode 8: Cyclades Islands (West), Greece

Vedere de pe mare cu plaja Klima din Milos.

April 5th – April 12th, 2025

7-day sailing expedition on yachts in Greece – Western Cyclades Islands

We are organizing the first expedition of 2025 to the western part of the Cyclades Islands. We will depart on April 5th from Lavrio and return on April 11th to the same location.

Why the Cyclades? Besides the fact that the area is remarkably beautiful, it offers excellent opportunities to learn sailing: coastal navigation, open-sea crossings, varied geography (which influences wind and weather), ports, anchorages, diverse winds, waves, and plenty of sunshine.

Okay, but why the Cyclades in April? It's the latest period in the year when the chances of the Meltemi wind blowing are very low. Who is Meltemi? Meltemi is a strong, periodic, local north wind that typically blows between May and September in the Aegean Sea. During an expedition focused on learning to sail, Meltemi can significantly limit navigation activities.

Why are we talking about periodic winds? Because understanding the winds in the area where you are sailing is essential for proper planning, and planning is fundamental in sailing. Where can you read more about Meltemi? You can start here.

Why is this text written like a dialogue? Because on Real Life Skipper expeditions, we encourage you to ask any sailing-related question that comes to mind. I'm embarrassed to ask if I might sound ridiculous. There's no need to be afraid. Asking questions is a healthy part of the learning process. We believe that the best learning recipe combines interaction between practice, theory, and more practice.

We look forward to exploring together and learning from every moment at sea!

What will you learn?

Everything for beginners and experienced sailors: sail handling, docking, anchoring, planning, day and night navigation, how to be a responsible skipper, leadership, and crew management.

On this expedition, the crews will be of mixed levels: beginner sailors and experienced skippers. Therefore, we will practice both maneuvers and advanced navigation principles. This also reflects the real-life situation on yachts, where the crew consists of members with varying levels of experience.

How much does it cost?

900 Euro/person in a double cabin (shared)

1600 Euro/person in a double cabin for single occupancy

Prices do not include port fees, provisions, and fuel, but they do include boat rental and insurance, cleaning fees, and of course, the TRAINING.

(**) This package is designed for those who prefer more sleeping space and wish to occupy a cabin on their own.

What's our intinerary?

See the map below with all the route information. You should ideally have a good look at it before the expedition, as it is part of the pre-training.
