7-day Sailing Expedition in Greece – Ionian Islands

At the beginning of summer, just before the crowds arrive, we gathered for an unforgettable expedition in the Ionian Islands. This region in western Greece, along the Adriatic Sea, is famous for its stunning landscapes. In the middle of summer, it gets very crowded and extremely hot, but early June is simply perfect. The weather conditions are excellent for learning, especially for beginners: the sea is calm, and the wind is moderate – a perfect setup for safely mastering the art of sailing.

What we learned

We covered a wide range of essential skills: departing from the dock, anchoring, docking maneuvers (stern to and alongside), night navigation, as well as launching, steering, and retrieving the dinghy, reefing the sails, and passage planning. We also learned and practiced the man overboard maneuver, first with a fender and then with a real MOB.

On the last day, we intensively practiced the right-of-way rules between sailing vessels in a high-traffic area, giving participants the opportunity to put everything they learned into practice.
